From humble beginnings, Rhiwbina Tennis Club has grown to become one of the most successful tennis clubs in Wales. Punching well above its weight, Rhiwbina Tennis Club can now boast 352 members and 38 competitive club teams. This is in stark contrast to just 7 years ago when the club had 195 members and 10 club teams.
Rhiwbina Tennis club is located in a small garden village community and the facilities, coaching, and opportunities for members have dramatically improved.
The facilities at the club have benefited from major investment in recent years. The dedicated committee of 10 members has invested over £110,000 in new facilities, including floodlights for 3 of the 7 courts and a new pavilion. With this investment the club has become an excellent tennis venue for the local community.
Coaching at the club has also been significantly expanded. From just 1 coach and 6 weekly sessions in 2008, the club now has 6 coaches and 18 tennis leaders delivering 30 weekly coaching sessions for members to enjoy.
The club now provides playing opportunities for all age groups and players of all standards. The club is bilingual and is keen to promote equal playing opportunities forming strong links with the URDD and Menter Caerdydd.
The club has developed from a small village club to become one of the most competitive in Wales, which in 2015 consisted of 38 teams, including AEGON British League (Regional Tier), Summer Premier League and Division 1 Winter League teams. One of only 3 clubs in Wales to offer such competitive tennis for both Men’s and Ladies teams. Over the past 7 years the club has won over 30 promotions and titles in AEGON/Summer and Winter leagues and are committed to improving every season.
